Reconciliation at St Marks

A Sorry Service was held in 2009 and a plaque blessed and in 2012 the Buderim Sesqui-centenary (B150) the participants in Walking Together – commemorating the Aborigines who showed Tom Petrie around Buderim- visited St Marks and viewed the plaque

The sorry service recognising the past injustices to Aboriginal and Pacific Islander people was held on 21st November, 2009. It was a collaboration between St Marks (rector Archdeacon Richard Gowty and curate Rev Dr Cathy Laufer) and Buderim SAILS (Coordinator Heather Johnston) with no formal Indigenous input. A small plaque fixed to a rocky outcrop was unveiled, the text reads:

“In recognition of an act of repentance for past injustices towards Aboriginal and Pacific Islanders people on Buderim “for the healing of the land and its people” 21st November 2009.
